LG’s Premium 4K TVs Get HomeKit And AirPlay 2 Support In The U.S.
It was revealed earlier this year that support for Apple’s smart home technology will be coming to premium TVs from different manufacturers. LG is one of the manufacturers that was slated to receive support for AirPlay 2 and HomeKit. It has now become the first major TV brand to provide support for these technologies to customers in the United States.
A software update is now being rolled out to the more premium models in LG’s 2019 4K TV lineup which brings the AirPlay 2 and HomeKit features to the company’s OLED and NaoCell 4K LCD sets with ThinQ onboard. The firmware update isn’t out for the SM8100 series, though, while other LG sets will receive their updates in the coming months.
It will actually become increasingly common for smart TVs to offer integrated support for AirPlay 2 but LG has set itself apart by becoming the first major global TV manufacturer to offer support for HomeKit as well. This will enable users to utilize Apple’s smart home technology for tasks such as controlling the TV input, power, volume, and more.
The latest software update is being rolled out gradually so it could take a while before it lands on all compatible LG 2019 4K TV sets.
